"The Center for ResearchDevelopment of Traditional Chinese Medicine Preparations at Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine has its origins in the Preparation Room established in 1955. It was newly built in 1986relocated to Phoenix West Street in 1989, becoming the Preparation Department. In 2001, the hospital invested over 7 million yuan to complete GPP renovations over a yeara half,in 2002, it passed inspection by the Jiangsu Provincial Drug Administrationwas issued a preparation license. In 2021, in response to clinical needs, a new ResearchDevelopment Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine Preparations was built at 228 Yinxinghu Avenue, Jiangning District, Nanjing City. The project covers an area of 60 acres, with a total construction area of 50,000 square meters. In April 2023, it passed inspection by the Jiangsu Provincial Drug Administrationreceived a new preparation license.

The ResearchDevelopment Center is organizedsix functional centers: the Hospital Preparation Center, the Innovative TCM Research Center, the Traditional TCM Processing Center, the Health Industry Development Center, the TCM Decoction Service Center,the Authentic Medicinal Material Storage Center. The center aims to become a first-class modern TCM preparation productionresearch center in the country, providing strong support for the high-level constructionhigh-quality development of the National TCM InheritanceInnovation Center.

The ResearchDevelopment Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine Preparations includes 11 clean zones, such as workshops for oral solid preparations, oral liquid preparations,personalized processing, totaling nearly 8,000 square meters of purified preparation space. It is equipped with over 400 various pharmaceutical devices, testing,research instruments, including automatic multi-functional extraction tanks, automatic concentrators, rotary tablet presses, high-efficiency coating machines, fully automatic capsule filling machines, fluidized bed granulators, liquid automatic filling production lines, multi-column bag packaging production lines, material mixing machines, elevating granulating machines, viscous drug capsule filling machines, liquid blending systems, pulsating vacuum drying ovens, grading crushers, TCM powder sterilizers, automatic high-speed packing machines,robotic stacking machines, among other modern pharmaceutical equipment. It also has imported instruments for high-performance liquid chromatography, liquid-mass coupling,gas chromatography for various experimental testing.

The center currently employs over 60 staff members, with more than 60 professional technical personnel holding undergraduate degreeshigher in traditional Chinese medicinepharmacy, nearly 30 of whom have senior titles. There are over 180 personnel of various ranks dispatched to the center. Since 2004, the center has implemented internal enterprise management, supervised by the hospitals Preparation Management Committee,has established a preparation quality management organizationa drug inspection room. The quality management organization includes the supervising president, the head of the Preparation Department, the head of the Pharmacy Department,the head of the Drug Inspection Room. The center has an office, a TCM extraction group, a grindingpersonalized service group, an oral solid group, an oral liquid group, a topical preparation group, a packaging group, a drug inspection room, a laboratory, a paste preparation group, a supply guarantee group,a mechanical repair group. Managementproduction workshop heads are all technical personnel with mid- to senior titles. To ensure drug quality, since 2002, the center has developed a comprehensive GPP management document system based on GMP standards, regulating all procedures for preparation operations. All rawauxiliary materials used in production are approved medicinal raw materials,all packaging materials have drug packaging material registration certificates. Detailed batch production records are maintained for each preparation,all personnel undergo trainingare qualified before starting work. The entire preparation process strictly follows the preparation technology,products can only be used clinically after passing inspection.

Thanks to the relentless efforts of several generations of hospital staff, the ResearchDevelopment Center has independently developedproduced about 200 formulations across 28 dosage forms, including pills, powders (including topical), granules, tablets, gels, syrups, mixtures (oral liquids), hard capsules, tinctures (including topical), fluid extractsdecoctions, gels, ointments, creams, washes, drops, nasal drops, ear drops, oral solutions, emulsions, solutions (topical), glycerin preparations, creams, enemas, plasters,suppositories. It also provides personalized processing services for pastes, pills, granules,capsules to meet clinicalresearch medication needs, making significant contributions to creating a leading modern innovative comprehensive TCM hospital in the country."
