The Hypertension Research Institute was established in 2015serves as a key research center for hypertension under the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is the leading unit for the National ScienceTechnology Ministry’s key research project on “Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospitals,”it has developed the TCM treatment guidelines for the "National Guidelines for the PreventionManagement of Hypertension at the Primary Level." The institute is also the chair unit of the Expert Committee on the PreventionTreatment of Hypertension under the Chinese Association of Traditional Chinese Medicineis recognized as the Clinical Medicine Innovation Center for Hypertension in Jiangsu Province.

Guided by the academic thoughts of renowned TCM masters Zhou ZhongyingProfessor Tang Shuhua,led by Professor Fang Zhuyuan, a member of the State Council Academic Degree Committee’s Discipline Evaluation Groupthe first “Qihuang Scholar,” the institute prioritizes improving the "awareness, treatment,control rates" of hypertension. It adheres to the philosophy of integrating TCM as the leading approachWestern medicine as the essential support, emphasizing the combined strengths of both systems. Focusing on hypertension as a key disease, the institute actively promotes the unique advantages of TCM in managing cardiovascular diseases.

It deepens the TCM concept of "preventing disease before it occurs" through three levels:

Preventing the onset of disease (early interventionprevention), Preventing disease progression (coordinated blood pressure managementmetabolic regulation),Preventing complications (protecting target organspreventing related disorders). The institute has developed a comprehensiveeffective TCM diagnostictreatment system for hypertension-related organ damage. Treatments such as “Qianyang Yuyin Granules,” “Pinggan Yishen Granules,”“Zhuo Xue Qing Granules,” which have been clinically applied for over 20 years, have shown significant effects in lowering blood pressure, particularly in preventingtreating hypertension-related kidney damageimproving glucoselipid metabolism, earning the favor of numerous patients.

To enhance comprehensive preventiontreatment of hypertensionhighlight the advantages of TCMWestern medicine integration, the Hypertension Research Institute has launched a hypertension chronic disease management outpatient service. This service employs a combined approach to treat hypertension, focusing on prevention, healthcare, medical treatment,rehabilitation while monitoringmanaging the entire process of hypertension development. The institute fully utilizes TCM advantagesemphasizes the protection of target organs such as the heart, brain, kidneys, blood vessels,eyes.
